Crepes originated in Brittany, the northwest region of France, They used to be only used as bread. they were traditionally made with buckweat flour because white flour used to be a very expensive product and only royalty could afford it. They were such a big deal in France that every February 2 there was a national holiday for them. It wasn't until 1930 when crepes were brought to America by French Chef Henri Charpentier. Americans have been enjoying them ever since.
